Qualities of a great team leader
As famously quoted by Vince Lmbardi,”Leaders are made, they are
not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must
pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” Leadership
is a trait, a quality, a skill, a form of motivation, a drive that individuals
can offer to their fellow mates to succeed and live out their potentials. Such
a leader is an essential for any company team or group.
Many question and are
unsatisfied with their corresponding team leaders and think they deserve to be
in such positions. No one is perfect but there are traits that make one a great
leader. The strife to get to these high standards takes time and investment in
understanding oneself and the others around. This takes place by working on
ones emotional intelligence.
Let’s look at some of the qualities that can
help leaders to manage their team efficiently:
Understanding that this is not a position of authority
The primary thing is the attitude of humbleness.
Their meaning of leadership should be well comprehended. It isn’t a position to
rule and reign, to command and dictate but rather a position where one can take
the members of the team, push them to work on their potential, bring out the
best in them and lead them to success.
Genuine care and selflessness
This is the utmost important trait any leader
should possess. Only when there is such care will they want the benefit of
others and hence that will lead to bringing them to excellence. The leader
shouldn’t work for his gain but for the required output that the company requires,
which can be brought forth if every individual member gives their best.
Selfishness will get one no where. Aggressiveness and insults lash out when the
motive is selfish. Such traits do not help in bringing out results in a willing
manner. A leader's focus is the people.
Willingly have followers
Leaders have an exceptional ability to get others
to wilfully follow them without force and exertion. People around can see these
qualities and the genuineness in their leader that gives them the security that
he’s doing it for the upliftment of the group. A sense of trust and confinement is built that
enables them to willingly work together to excel.
Drive, innovation and long term goals
The ability to motivate their group to
individually reach their potential is something every leader must have. When he
has a clear focus and target, he is able to push his members to fulfil that
goal by instilling that drive in them. They support and aid the others in the
accomplishment of a common task. They have the skill to develop ways for the
members to contribute their best. They are innovative and able to creatively
bring out results from their fellow mates by not instilling fear in them but
rather getting an enthusiastic response that improves the quality of outputs.
Integrity and self confidence
One is at a position where everyone looks up to
them hence one should be confident, encouraging and always have a positive
attitude so that the other members are influenced in a good way. The work
results and the employees reflect the leader hence all the work processes
should be carried out diligently. The leader should have a strong front
outwardly and internally so that the co-workers keep pushing hard to fulfil the
desired outcomes.
